The only bad thing about this year 24 Heuers of Le Mans is that Aston Martin screwed up its car, big time. So it's once again a two men race, with both Audi and Peugeot showing off their brand new weapons of track destruction.
While the new Peugeot 908 looks just about the same as the old 908 HDi FAP, the new Audi R18 is completely different despite vaguely resembling the R15, except it got a canopy this time.
Both cars are designed around the new set of rules with modified aerodynamics and reduced engine displacement. It's hard to say if they are faster because of the design's quality, or because of the huge budget both teams has compared to even Aston Martin Racing itself.
That's the same reason why it's hard to tell if diesel powered cars are indeed faster. I guess we'll never know by the look of things.
Regardless, it's time for the action on track to talk for itself. Will Peugeot drive its cars to destruction once again, or did Audi fix all those small issues which were holding the R18 back?
We'll know in 24 hours.
